Intueri is the Latin root of the word intuition. It means to look at, upon, or towards; to consider, observe and give attention to; to regard with wonder; to watch over. With what do we observe, consider, and give attention to? The Soul! That spiritual and immaterial part of life that is immortal, intelligent, and makes up the very essence of our existence! It’s revealed to us in countless ways over the course of our lives.
American author, Dean Koontz, said, “Intuition is seeing with the soul.” What does that mean? It means that there is a part of us that can receive data and knowledge through the immaterial, immortal, essence of life and ourselves that is largely unseen or more aptly, overlooked.
Why is it overlooked? Because in this world, “seeing with the soul” itself is overlooked! In modern, mainstream society we are not primarily taught or supported to give attention to the wisdom of the soul, to endlessly regard with wonder the many layers of our existence, or to watch over the quality of our spiritual connection with life with great care. Soul work is inner work we have fight for if we want to change and evolve, not work that is considered to be as essential as breathing. The price that we pay for the collective mistake of not centering this inner work is tragic disconnection from our intuition, our first sense, the primary sense of the soul. And unfortunately, we are not always thorough enough in restoring that connection, which leaves us yearning for more, wanting to fill the void, and confused about how to live well and in line with our deepest purpose and highest good. It’s beyond time for us all to learn to see with the soul again!
