spiritual mentorship

Spiritual Mentorship is designed to help you remember and recognize the principles of clarity, connection, and wholeness inherent in your own being and the natural laws of the “spiritual world” through the lense of open, safe, inter-spiritual and inter-religious study, inquiry, mentorship, and dialogue.

Often when we seek spiritual mentorship, we are attempting to reconcile the faith tradition or “belief norms” of our upbringing, or even our recent past, with seemingly conflicting spiritual perspectives that have evolved within us over time and continue to evolve. This can result in confusion, discord, a sense of unsettledness, and even a pervasive or low-lying fear that we may be getting it wrong on some level. However, deeper awarenesses are available once we begin a more personal, contemplative, dedicated journey to the mystical (heart- and soul-centered) core of various religions and spiritual dimensions of consciousness.

Through deep listening, dialogue, and a marriage of mindfulness techniques and contemplative practices that I have found useful on the journey of rediscovery of a personal spirituality, I hold the space for you to return to the fundamental truths of the self and a higher power, and to begin to break down illusions and perspectives that no longer serve you. Coincidentally, this often leads to a “full-circle moment” and renewed inner peace with the traditions and/or practices that came to repel you or confuse you at one time.

I believe the process of spiritual unfoldment is an opportunity for loving support, self-care, insightful inquiry, and devoted intention. As questions or obstacles arise on the journey, a spiritual mentor can help you return again and again to the core principles that govern the process of being, becoming, and connecting with The Divine/Source of Creation.

The goal is a deepening of the recognition of your true nature, so that your life may be free of the blockages and patterns of suffering that keep you in a state of duality within yourself and unrest with reality around you. The result is more peace, abundance, gratitude, interconnectedness, healing, positivity, empowerment, love, compassion, and integration of your true self in the world and your spiritual life. The result is spiritual sovereignty.

Through the grace that comes through spiritual mentorship with me, you do not have to take the journey alone.

a note from kendall

I grew up in the Baptist Christian tradition. It was the default religion for my family, as my mother’s grandfathers were Southern Baptist preachers in Florida and Georgia – the primitive, hellfire & brimstone variety. From any early age, I was troubled by church topics like “being one of the chosen” and “asking a savior to save me from my sins” and the idea of a fiery hell that we could find ourselves in for eternity if we didn’t properly repent our mistakes and evil ways. These were teachings I got from church, not from home, where God seemed more fair minded, compassionate, loving, genuinely just, and diplomatic.

My parents respected my choice to discover a truly personal relationship with the God of my understanding, and did not force me to get baptized when the opportunity was offered to me as a child, so I didn’t. As I got older, I struggled with hypocrisies I observed in Christians around me, especially in church leaders and elders. By the time I was an angsty, whistle-blowing teenager, I thought I was done with Jesus and Christianity.

But a world religions class and a New Testament class in college helped me make peace with the religion of my upbringing, or at the very least, with Jesus, himself. (I have always loved Jesus, himself.) These courses also opened the door for me to learn about different religious worldviews and follow an interfaith path of more heart-centered, mystical spirituality. Fast forward to today: you couldn’t have paid me enough money to believe that I’d be choosing a ministry path, just like my grandfathers! Though it looks different and is different, I guess I’ve continued in the footsteps of wayshowers.

To newcomers at Light House I have often said, You get to heal your relationship with your religion of origin so that your spiritual wounds don’t show up in the room ahead of you. I believe that! We have this opportunity to reconcile the new consciousness we’re coming into, or find ourselves in already, with old, religious conditioning that didn’t/doesn’t give us more of a whole picture. It helps if we have someone to help us sort things out during the reconciling, including some of the healing opportunities that inevitably come with that. This is also true for people who once believed in nothing or had no spiritual foundation at all – a little help goes a long way in figuring out who/what a higher power is to you today and how you want to include that consciously in your daily life.

I’m here for it! I’m here for you.
